Playtime!

Recently we've started to put Kyle on his playmat. As I've mentioned before he's extremely active with his arms and legs - you will see in this video - so we thought that he'd really enjoy time on the mat. He sure has! He bats at his friends, which in emails I've received about "Your Baby this week..." have said he should be doing at 6-7 weeks. (Can hardly believe my little baby is going to be 7 weeks old tomorrow!) We have a monkey/jungle playmat at home, and this video was taken at Nana and Papa's on the deck where he got to enjoy his other playmat. We hooked his little animal friends on and he kicked and batted away in his crabby outfit :) If he keeps this up, I'll never see chubby thighs on my little guy! We also do "tummy time" on the mat too, he's not always as excited about this - but we get a few good minutes a day at least!

For those curious - we ended up getting the Flip Slide HD video camera and we LOVE it! It takes great quality videos, it's handheld and super portable and best of all it's easy to download and upload the videos, Flip has great software! The only thing is that it only comes in white, but I plan on getting a Skinit for it very soon - just deciding which one!

Smiling's My Favorite!

Kyle has a lot of new tricks - cooing, blowing bubbles with his mouth, sucking on his hand, sticking out his tongue, kicking like Pelé, and SMILING (which is my favorite!) At 6 weeks old he is still amazing us each and every day! I've managed to capture a few pictures of this adorable smile when I'm not sitting there trying to make him do it :) Here are a couple of my favorites! I have to say, now I can't wait for him to laugh!

And a quick video of the little grinner! :)

Father's Day Fun!

We celebrated Adam's first Father's Day this past weekend! It was such a wonderful weekend for such a deserving Dad! I knew Adam was going to be a great Dad all along, but seeing him with Kyle just melts my heart. Thank you, Adam, for all that you do for Kyle and me :)

We hosted a BBQ for our Dad's on Father's Day and were joined by our moms, both of our brothers, sisters-in-law, nephews too! It was a great day and all the cousins enjoyed playing and hanging out. This was the first time that Jordan (8 months) and Kyle met - not sure what they thought of one another, but we did pose them for a couple of pictures. Garrett (2 years), on the other hand, was too busy playing in the little pool to stop for a photo shoot :)

Kyle gave Daddy some pictures to hang up in his cube at work, and a Baby's First Handprint baseball kit since Daddy is such a huge baseball fan! We are still working on finding the right moment to ink up Kyle's hand and put the handprint on the baseball, pics to follow when that happens :)

Here are a few pictures from the Father's Day BBQ and our weekend visit from the DC Kac's!

Happy 1 Month to Kyle!

It's so hard to believe that a month has past since our beautiful baby boy was born. Some days it really seems like yesterday...others it seems like a month :) I kid, I kid. People are right though, these babies grow up SO fast! In the last month, we've all learned a lot - about what all of Kyle's cries mean, about the trials and tribulations of changing a boy's diaper, how to survive without a full night's sleep, how to run errands on a baby's schedule...to name a few :)

Kyle has done a lot in his one month of life. Between meeting lots of family and friends, he's also made road trips up to the North Shore and down to the Cape (twice!) He visited Mom's school to meet her students and co-workers and just this weekend he went to his first wedding! My roommate Christine from college got married and Kyle attended the ceremony at the church - with the help of Aunt Jenn, it was a huge success - he didn't make a sound (except for hiccups!)

Here is a picture from his 1-month birthday. I ordered these onesie decals from a website called Picky Sticky and highly recommend them for a cute way to document your baby's monthly birthdays! These would also make a great gift for someone who's expecting!

Success!

Well, we made it through a couple milestones this week!

Milestone #1:
First overnight trip to the Cape (Memorial Day Weekend)

The three of us packed up and headed to the Cape last weekend (Saturday-Sunday) and stayed at Nana and Papa's house. It was a huge success! Kyle looooved the Cape so much that he slept for 7 hours at night! (10pm - 5am). Adam and I couldn't believe it! I definitely had that moment as the mom where I woke up and my first reaction was "omg is he breathing?!" We enjoyed a cook-in (it rained) on Saturday with family and friends at my parents and then Sunday we ventured over to Auntie Mags' and Uncle Steve's house for a cook-out (weather was beautiful!) Kyle got to meet his cousin Jane, too! These family gatherings have surely changed with all the babies that we've been blessed with, so much fun and that much more love to share :)

Milestone #2:
First week with Daddy back to work!

Kyle and I officially got through our first week flying solo while daddy went back to work. There were some moments that were more challenging than others, but overall I think we both would give the week 2 thumbs up :) Even though it was a short week, it felt long. We had a couple appointments and made it out of the house and to our appointments on time, so that was a bonus! Kyle is getting bigger by the minute, eating like a champ! This week he weighed in at 7lbs 9oz! We enjoyed a few walks, some tummy time, meeting some more friends and relatives and got some good naps in! We are looking forward to another week and this week we're planning on a day trip to the Cape to see Nana! (Mommy might even venture out for some "me" time and get some shopping and a pedicure done while Nana babysits!)

2 Weeks Old!

Kyle turned 2 weeks old today, Adam and I can hardly believe it! In some ways, it seems about right but in others it seemed like we just were at the hospital delivering him yesterday! Our little guy is doing SO well and we are having a blast being parents! At his last weight check-up today, he was 7lbs 6oz - up 8oz from his birth weight!! We couldn't be more proud...he likes to eat like his Mommy and Daddy :)

Kyle has developed a couple talents in his first two weeks of life: holding his bottle and his pacifier! Ah, boy genius!

We have also had some fun with bath time too. First one we cried a lot, second bath we were as calm as can be. Clearly his favorite part is getting his hair washed/massaged - I mean who doesn't love getting that done?!

Here are a couple pictures from the past few days. We took our first trip down to Plymouth Harbor and enjoyed some sunshine and a nice walk. We also made trips to Target and Michael's but I'm sure that Kyle couldn't tell you much about any of that since he has slept through all of it!! haha

It's a Boy!

The wait is finally over! Those of you who guessed that our baby boy would come "late" were right, but luckily we didn't have to wait too long to meet him!

Kyle Douglas Kacamburas
Born: Thursday, May 13, 2010 @ 9:03am
Weight: 6lbs 14oz
Height: 20 inches

I started having contractions on the evening of May 11th (my due date and also my last day of work, coincidentally). They were not painful but had some rhythm to them. I went to bed and thought 'we'll just see what's happening in the morning'. Well the next morning, they were feeling a bit stronger and happening a bit closer together. We decided to call the doctor and see what they said. I had been in the day before and was 4cm dilated, so they thought they'd check me again at the office that morning. Long story short, we went into the office, I was still 4cm dilated but now my contractions were coming almost 4-5min apart and they decided to send us to the hospital...IT WAS TIME!!

I'll skip the details of the next 24 hours that I was in labor (and a lot of pain) and just say that our little guy and my body decided to act like a square peg in a round hole and not fit the way nature planned. I ended up delivering via c-section and we experienced the miracle of life welcoming our perfect baby boy into the world at 9:03am!

Throughout our 5-day stay at South Shore Hospital we met some of the most amazing doctors, nurses and maternity staff that we could have ever imagined. It was a great experience and we are thankful to everyone there for making this experience even more memorable than it already was.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us in the hospital and stood by the phone (at all hours of the night) waiting for the news! Adam, Kyle and I are so blessed to have you all in our lives and we look forward to sharing this journey with you!

Here are some pictures of Kyle's first days of life :)
